Advanced COSA

Advanced COSA: Course of Science Administration

We invite corporate research institute directors (or people of equivalent rank) to give lectures, using examples, on how education and research experience gained in doctoral programs at graduate schools is being utilized in corporate research and activities, and what companies today expect from post-doctors (PD) and Doctoral students (DC). The lecturers have experience at the forefront of research in companies where many basic science researchers are employed and active, and are currently engaged in daily issues such as the nature of corporate research and how basic research should be conducted. Through these lectures, we aim for post-doctors (PD) and graduate students to deepen their understanding of the current state of corporate research, which is important both in corporate and academic activities, to recognize the importance of basic science in society, and to broaden their horizons.
Starting in 2008, we have also included young and mid-career researchers as lecturers.

Lecture Contents

Lecturers (at the research institute director level) invited from the company will give two lectures (60 minutes x 2). In the first class, they will introduce the company with a focus on research and development, and in the second class, they will give a more specific and practical talk on the characteristics and appeal of corporate research, research management, etc. Success stories of product and technology development will be introduced as practically as possible, from the initial research idea to applied research, scale-up research, and manufacturing, followed by product planning, marketing, and sales strategies. The lectures will be in the form of a workshop, with time set aside for questions and answers from the audience. Please feel free to ask any questions or thoughts you may have about the company.
